av for Arenas, casinos, and stages

AV control systems that hold up under the roar of the crowd.

Modern sports and entertainment facilities demand innovative AV technologies. For over 60 years, we've hung speakers for basketball arenas and football fields, wired scoreboards and video walls inside stadiums, and outfitted casino theaters and hotel systems. Whether it's a gym, a stadium, or a stage, Thalner designs the AV control systems your space actually needs, not a one-size-fits-all stock package.

  • Center-hung and ribbon-board video walls for arenas and stadiums
  • Speaker systems for basketball arenas, football fields, and natatoriums
  • Casino video walls, hotel TV distribution, and theater audio
  • Theatrical audio and lighting for auditoriums and performance stages

Integrated venue AV operations

Your scoreboard, sound, and visuals run as one system, not three.

A video wall is only as good as the audio, lighting, and control system it's tied to. We design arena and theater systems as one build, with scoreboard displays, sound reinforcement, paging, and lighting all programmed to work together, so a facilities team isn't juggling three different remotes and three different vendors.

Once your system is live, our service department keeps it running, providing any necessary firmware updates, system checks, and warranty coverage. Seamless, streamlined, and simple: it's how we design AV with your space in mind.

  • Choose from industry-leading AV technologies and products
  • On-site AV assessments and honest system recommendations

Almost every AV company buys and sells the same TV and the same speaker at roughly the same price. So cost is usually not a value — it's our service, our customer service.

Tim BoggsPresident, Thalner

Designing sports and entertainment AV systems in Ann Arbor and beyond

Sports venues, theaters, and casino floors put different demands on an AV system than your average office layout or conference room does. A scoreboard has to survive years of weather and vibration. A theater's sound has to reach the back row without blowing out the front. A casino floor runs video walls and audio nearly around the clock. All of these elements require working with an AV team who is well-versed in these demands and expectations.

For over six decades, Thalner has built systems for basketball arenas, high school football and baseball fields, auditoriums, theaters, and casino floors, designing each one around how the space actually gets used, not a one-size package pulled off a shelf. We work directly with athletic departments, theater managers, and casino owners who already know roughly what they need (a video wall, a distributed TV system, a sound system for a theater), but need someone local to design it, install it, and stand behind it.

Custom AV systems that innovate, inspire, and entertain

No two entertainment venues or sports facilities are alike, and neither are their technical demands. Thalner approaches every sports or entertainment AV system on a case-by-case basis, with in-house engineers who create fully integrated AV environments that align with your venue’s layout, audience experience, and operational workflows. Our approach to seamless integration includes:

  • Custom system design based on acoustics, lighting conditions, and sightlines
  • Integrated audio, video, lighting, and control systems
  • IT-friendly network architecture to support high-bandwidth performance
  • Scalable solutions designed for future expansion and upgrades

A lot of this work starts with designing a video wall — a center-hung display inside an arena, a ribbon board wrapped around the seating bowl, or an architectural wall wrapped around a lobby pillar. We work in curved and flat formats across video wall brands, because what matters is how the wall gets driven, mounted, and serviced once it's up, not the name on the bezel.

Sound is its own discipline. We've hung speaker systems for basketball arenas, K-12 and high school football and baseball fields, and natatoriums, where humidity and echo both work against clear audio. A pro-audio system for a theater or casino floor gets mixed and tuned differently than a paging system for a warehouse, and we install pro-audio lines that are custom built for that kind of reinforcement.

The goal is to put all the pieces together so one control point runs the video wall, sound, and paging without three separate systems to learn. By unifying all systems into a cohesive platform, Thalner ensures every performance feels polished, every game feels engaging, and every system feels effortless to manage.

Proudly serving Ann Arbor, Detroit, Lansing, and all surrounding areas

Thalner has been based in Ann Arbor, for over 60 years, proudly supporting the University of Michigan campus, Detroit, Lansing, and nearby cities with custom AV solutions. Every installation we perform includes a one-year warranty, and clients who want more can extend that coverage or set up an ongoing maintenance contract with regular system checks and firmware updates.

Our in-house certified programmers write the control interfaces for these systems, so when a scoreboard, a paging zone, or a video wall processor needs a change, it's the same team that built it that is also making the fix. We're also part of the PSNI Global Alliance, a network of AV integrators we've belonged to for more than 25 years, meaning our clients with locations outside our typical service area have access to vetted AV partners whenever their system needs repairs or inspections.

One team for all your sports and entertainment AV needs

Sports venues, theaters, and casino floors don't leave much room for hosting an AV system that doesn't work the first time or won't hold up over a season. That's why we design these systems as one build instead of a pile of separate purchases, with a free design process, in-house engineers and programmers, and a service department that stays involved after the ribbon-cutting.

With Thalner, you get the service and support of having one point of contact for all your AV needs. If you're planning an AV upgrade for a stadium, a casino floor, or a new theater, schedule a consultation with us today and we'll help you figure out what it actually needs to enhance your operations.

FAQs

Questions we get about sports and entertainment AV.

Both. We've completed casino projects in Michigan covering video walls, distributed TV for hotel rooms, and theater audio, alongside arena and stadium work. Each project gets designed around what that floor actually needs.

Design typically runs one to two weeks and is free. Installation timelines depend on the size of the venue and whether a season or event calendar limits when we can be on site.

We're primarily a Crestron and QSC house, with Extron in the mix as well. Our four in-house programmers build custom interfaces so one touch panel can run the video wall, sound, and paging together.

Yes. We take over existing AV systems regularly, whether that's a scoreboard, a paging system, or a video wall that isn't performing the way it should.

Our sweet spot is about 60 to 80 miles from Ann Arbor, covering Detroit and Lansing along with everything in between. Through the PSNI Global Alliance, we can also support locations further out.
